Tom Conboy
A Brief Biography
Tom was born in West Palm Beach, FL on August 28, 1966. He grew up in Lake Worth as a very talented multi sport athlete. After graduating John I. Leonard High School in 1984 he attended Troy State University in Alabama on a football scholorship. Unfortunately a series of injuries ended his football career but he completed his undergraduate degree in education at Palm Beach Atlantic University here in Florida. Tom was hired by the Palm Beach County School District to teach math to emotionally handicapped students in Belle Glade, FL which he did for three years. Afterwards he transferred to Crestwood Middle School in Royal Palm Beach, FL where he became a physical education teacher. While there Tom coached a baseball team that twice won the Palm Beach county championship. Its roster included current major league baseball catcher, Jason Saltalamaccia, who plays for the Texas Rangers. In 1997 Tom took a position with the then Middle School of the Arts (now Bak) in West Palm Beach, FL as athletic director, PE teacher, and coach of four different sports teams. It is there he has managed one of the most successful athletic programs in all of Palm Beach County. It was just during the height of his teaching career when tragedy would strike. In August of 2008 Tom was diagnosed with bladder cancer that originated in his kidney. His kidney had to be removed followed by months of treatment which included chemotherapy and radiation. After battling the cancer for more than a year and a half Tom eventually succumbed to the disease on March 14, 2010. He is survived by his mother Irmi and brother Eric.
